Do You Feel It?

Woman in a field looking to the sky

Spring is in the air, and along with blooming flowers, I’m catching scents of “hope” and “healing”. The events of the past 12 months have been unprecedented (are you as tired of that word as I am?) and I think we are all anxious to return to something that resembles our lives before the pandemic.

If you’re anything like me, you may feel as if you are awakening from a long slumber; albeit not feeling exactly well-rested. Perhaps, like me, you are just plain worn out.

The good news is that, for me, there are certain times of the year that signal a time for rejuvenation and growth, and Spring is one of them. So, I’m grabbing onto the “hope” I feel in the air and plotting my next steps.

What does growth mean to me? It’s taking the time to grow my practice of self-care, my relationships with others, my professional life, and my skills.

How?

Days have a tendency to pass quickly, one rolling into the next. Have you ever woken up and thought, “how can it be Monday already”? Or looked on in astonishment as you flip the calendar from one month to the next?

There is more than one way to slow the hands of time (letting the battery run out on your wall clock is one of them!). A more practical way is by practicing mindfulness; intentionally slowing down and taking stock rather than moving through your tasks by rote. By bringing awareness to my day, and being as fully present as I can be, I’m realizing that my days have a nice cadence to them.

Rather than letting time slip through my fingertips, I’m taking control of my time, and how I spend it. I make conscious choices on how I want to spend my time. Laundry will wait; a phone call with my son who lives out of state is more important. In the midst of 100 work emails, I find the time to send a personal note to someone to let them know I’m thinking about them. I fit in “face time” with my friends and family in the morning as I’m fixing breakfast or putting on my makeup. I’m listening to podcasts to increase my knowledge base during my morning walks.

In essence, I am taking charge of my DAY in order to include things that recharge my LIFE.

My wish is that you feel the “hope” in the air as I do and that you are taking steps to feed the areas of your life that may have been dormant over the past year.
